...by dancers for dancers
The State Ballet of Siberia is a professional dance company and a great success story. The needs of the dancers, constantly dancing and touring around the globe, made the directors think of creating their own pointe shoes, to "overcome the shortcomings of existing products using innovative techniques", Alex says.
"For many decades, the Bolshoi Theater employed its own skilled craftspeople to make custom pointe shoes. When we began thinking about creating a new brand of pointe shoes, we first consulted with several of these craftspeople, who generously shared with us their knowledge and skills."
Trials and errors...
The process of creation was a close collaboration between the dancers, the design team and the manufacturers.
The two first models created were called after wonderful Russian ballerinas, Pavlova and Karsavina. After so many trials and errors, the company delivered to its dancers their own pointe shoes - the ones they were dreaming of: durable, comfortable, beautiful, perfectly fitted and non-slippery due to the special canvas used.
Later, the idea of the Rudolf model came up: "Male dancers in our company often use pointe shoes as a unique strengthening tool in they everyday ballet classes. It is not uncommon anymore that male dancers use pointe shoes on stage, too! BUT the difficulties they face to find the right shoe are incredible, compared to the huge rage of the offer to the female dancers. It was about time to balance this situation", Sergey shares.
Known all over the world...
The fact that all the dancers had pointe shoes of the same shape and the same matte color made an impression in the ballet experts' world. In 2017, the request for the Siberian Swan pointe shoes made its directors change their mind and share their pointe shoes with dancers outside the company.
Two years after, the brand has become well known in the United States, Europe, South Africa, and Canada, and has garnered excellent reviews.
